What is your general topic?

 

subliminal advertising/messages

 

How will you narrow your topic down . . . or what aspects of your topic will you discuss in the paper?

 

1=  what subliminal messages are and how used in advertising (like even why it is a possibility) and types of subliminal

2-  limitation:  people must already have a need for the advertised product

3-  limitation:  placebo effect

4-  misconception:  not brainwashing...has limits and cannot make you do anything you do not want to

5-  limitation:  it is like classical conditioning.  can only make basic connections to your basic needs and must be repeated multiple times

 

What questions will you ask regarding the topic as you research?

 

-what is defined as subliminal messaging?

-how is subliminal messaging used in today’s media?

-are people aware of this?

-how effective is subliminal researched to be?

 

What is the basic argument that you plan to make in the paper?

 

Subliminal advertising is ineffective.

 

What do you already know about your topic?

 

-I know that subliminal messaging is supposedly “messages” that are shown beneath one’s consciousness; therefore there is the possibility of affecting one’s mind.

 

What specifically interests or intrigues you about the topic . . . or what made you choose the topic?

 

 -i love the psychology behind it but more than that I love how people take little pieces of information (take subliminal advertising) and run with it letting fear take control (assumption that it is brainwashing).  This is interesting and I think it is a topic that is not clearly explained; I want to address that.

 

Do you have any misgivings about your topic . . . or do you see any roadblocks ahead?  Explain.

 

-not to have all my arguments the same

-able to delineate the information to portray my points clearly and effectively so readers will understand without too much work

 

Anything else relevant to your topic/research at this point?  

 

-advertising in general and maybe the effects of advertising as a base line, not including possible subliminal messages

-a basic explanation of psychology and brain anatomy and how this works so people can have a brief understanding of how subliminal messages are said to be effective
